Fee: $150

Registration required call 479 474-7767

All levels of students are welcome.

This workshop will allow students to paint from a live, professional model.  Working from a long-term, sustained pose, students will have the opportunity to grapple with unfamiliar aesthetic, technical, and conceptual challenges; work large; and take their work to an advanced stage toward completion.

Jason  Sacran  has a BFA in painting from Tennessee Tech University, and credits towards an MFA from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Jason and his family live in Fort Smith, Arkansas, where he was the curator for the Fort Smith Art Center for almost three years. In 2009, Jason became a full-time artist/painter and part-time instructor for the University of Arkansas Fort Smith. Jason is also the Arkansas state ambassador for the Portrait Society of America. He has had several exhibitions and has been awarded many times for his works and achievements including a first place award in the Portrait Society of America’s 2011 Members Competition, Best of Show in the 2010 Wisconsin Plein Air Painter Association Annual Competition and Best of Show in the 2010 Winthrop Rockefeller Institution Invitational. Although an avid plein air painter, Jason is best known for his figurative and portrait work.

Schedule

Thursday–Saturday, 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.  Students will be assigned a space where they will work the four days of the seminar.  Students and instructor will paint from the model. Students will be able to observe and interact with Jason as they work and resolve the problems they encounter in creating a work of art. There will be group and individual critiques throughout the workshop as well.

PREPARATION

Each student is responsible for bringing his or her art materials, including an easel or small table.

Bring paints (acrylic or oil), brushes, canvas or other supports, pallet, a can for water or gamsol, easel, tv tray or small table, paper  towels, and cloths that can get dirty.

OBJECTIVES

Students will paint from a live, professional model.  Working from a long-term, sustained

pose, students will have the opportunity to grapple with unfamiliar aesthetic, technical, and conceptual challenges; work large; and take their work to an advanced stage toward completion.

The organizers of this event seek to offer, in Northwestern Arkansas, a rare opportunity: a studio environment for representational artists of all levels who want to strengthen their observational skills while working from life.

Working alongside professional artists, students will be exposed to the artists' methods, techniques, and decision making processes.

Students will be immersed in an environment that facilitates concentration, sound decisions, and hard work.
